By Sarah Ruhl
This charming and irreverent comedy of manners, set against the backdrop of the Victorian medical practice of using vibrators to cure women of hysteria, explores the nature of intimacy in married life. Catherine Givings is frustrated with her husband Dr. Givings. They love one another, but the good doctor is unable to express his love in any way that is meaningful to his wife. When Catherine learns long-kept secrets of the details of her husband’s practice; and when Elizabeth, their baby’s wet nurse, explains that husbands are capable of creating the same “paroxysms” achieved by the doctor’s equipment, she sets out on a mission to revitalize her marriage, even within the confines of staunch Victorian prudence. With great respect for the modesty of its characters and audience, this charming, hilarious, and ultimately deeply moving play will surely be one of the most talked about in the season.

The legendary 1966 musical smash with score by Kander and Ebb is set in pre-war Weimar Germany in the seedy world of a Berlin cabaret called The Kit Kat Klub. While tensions build outside with the rise of the Nazi party, the care-free abandon of the bohemian world of the club is interrupted. Battle lines are drawn and the world of the cabaret begins to parody the politics outside its doors. The season ends with freeFall’s stunning production of this beloved classic.

‘Rising-star jazz singer Whitney James’ is no stranger to the Bay area, appearing often at the Tampa Jazz Club, the Fox Jazz Club, and the Palladium, but she’s returning from her West Coast tour just in time to seduce our audience at freeFall Theatre. If you haven’t heard the voice the Seattle Weekly calls ‘a spine-tingling presence’, you owe it to yourself to spend a night with Whitney and a phenomenal group of local jazz musicians as they take you to your happy place.

The songs of summer as you’ve never heard them before! Crooner/jazz pianist Michael Raabe and chanteuse Sara DelBeato put their retro-tastic spin on everything from The Beach Boys and Cole Porter to Nelly and Sir-Mix-a-Lot. An evening of sizzling entertainment.
You’ve seen Alison and Lulu on stages all over Tampa Bay, and together most recently in the Rocky Horror Show at American Stage in the Park. These two powerhouse singers will make you laugh and cry, fall in and out of love, and make you agree wholeheartedly with the observation: they’re better than pizza.
freeFall’s Managing Director Jim Sorensen has been on stage frequently this past year and has appeared shirtless more times than he cares to remember. Laura Hodos has also appeared frequently onstage in the area, but always fully clothed. What they have in common, however, is not only a birthday, but also a love of silly songs and a joie de vivre that’s intoxicating (or nauseating, depending on who you ask).
What can be said about Matt McGee that hasn’t already been carved on the restroom stalls of the some of the finest establishments in town? He’s quick-witted, sharp-tongued, and one of the sweetest, most genuinely lovable people you’ll ever meet. Come join Matthew for his one-man tribute to Liza. and Paula Dean.
